Our 5 favorite places to explore in New Jersey

Being a stay at home mom gives me the opportunity to travel around our area during the week with A. When we moved to central NJ she was about two months old, and a day trip was quite an easy thing to do. But now that she’s a rambunctious toddler I’m constantly searching for interactive places to take her. We’ve visited the numerous zoos, aquariums, museums, & farms, and now have a list of our favorite spots! So I’m sharing five of our favorite toddler-friendly places in this lovely state.

Terhune Orchards.
I listed this spot first because it’s our absolute favorite place, especially in the fall. It’s one of the few places you can visit any day of the week. I love to take A because she has such a curiosity towards animals. As soon as we get out of the car she makes a B-line for the sheep! I think their neatest attraction is the “tractor garden.” It’s a patch of dirt filled with petal tractors for the kids to push or ride on, something I haven’t seen anywhere else. They also have a darling farm store filled with fuits, vegetables, delicious pies (yes i’ve tried a few), and an assortment of other goodies. So after the kids play you can pick up dinner on your way out!
Adventure Aquarium.
This aquarium is the perfect day trip with the kids, or a moms group. What I love is how spacious it is! There’s an interactive area on the second floor for the kids to explore and run around. During our first trip to the aquarium A was terrified of the Hippos, but during our last visit she walked over the shark tank! There’s a large food court with plenty of seating, and parking is convenient.
Duke Farms.
If you are looking for a place to let the kids stretch their legs, especially after this winter, I recommend Duke Farms. When Tyler and I first moved to Jersey we were living in New Brunswick. One day we took a wrong turn and ended up at Duke Farms. When we pulled in our first thought was that we had just stumbled upon a cult. But after further investigation we found out what this hidden gem really was. There goal is sustainability and education. There’s 18 miles of trails to bike, jog, or walk with those little ones. My favorite part is their stunning Orchid Range!
Lambertville, NJ.
If you haven’t explored the quant town of Lambertville, this is a perfect weekend activity. There are so many adorable shops, great restaurants, a trail along the canal, and a bridge that leads to New Hope, PA. It’s the perfect place to take the inlaws, or stroll around during naptime!

Veterans Park.
As a kid I always loved visiting our local splash pad. I discovered Veterans Park had one last summer from a local moms group. The park is well-kept, with plenty of room to explore. There’s a gated splash pad, which is wonderful during the summer. Just don’t forget the sunscreen, as there isn’t much shade. Next to the splash pad is a beautiful playground with a great swing set.

Duke Farms is on my list too. It's so close yet I don't always think of it. And I'm so ashamed to say that this fall was the FIRST time I took the girls apple picking at Terhunes. After almost 9 years of being a local mom… so bad! 🙂
